Pitt mathematics student Lark Song was recognized for his research poster at the Mathematical Association of America (MAA) MathFest in Indianapolis.

The MAA Awards are presented each year to acknowledge remarkable contributions to the association and the field of mathematics. Song is one of 19 students nationwide to earn the Outstanding Poster Award.

Song’s research which aims to prove the Truncated Octahedral Conjecture, a fundamental geometric theory on the surface area of the parallelohedron. Their unique space-filling properties also make parallelohedra significant to the fields of materials science, condensed matter physics, space engineering and architecture.

“I’m especially grateful to my mentor, , and to the mathematics department here at Pitt,” said Song. “Their commitment to students’ growth and success is unwavering, and the vibrant atmosphere of undergraduate research in the department is truly exceptional.”
