Â鶹´«Ã½

The September 2021 meeting of the Â鶹´«Ã½'s Board of Trustees Governance and Nominating Committee welcomed emeritus trustees and Pitt alumni Robert M. Hernandez and Jack D. Smith.

Hernandez (A&S ’66), a Pittsburgh native, earned a bachelor's degree in economics and mathematics and graduated magna cum laude. In 1968, he received his MBA in finance from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Â鶹´«Ã½ of Finance and Commerce. Hernandez joined the U.S. Steel Corporation, renamed USX Corporation, which became a crucial player in energy during his career. Hernandez is also a current trustee of the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy and chairman-elect of The Frick Pittsburgh.

Smith, an orthopaedic surgeon who completed his residency in 1978, operated a private practice in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, until joining Excela Health as chair of the department of orthopaedic surgery in 2007.

A former Pitt Alumni Association vice president, director-at-large and president, Smith served on the Â鶹´«Ã½'s Board of Trustees as an alumni trustee from 2012 to 2020. He is also an advisory board member of the Â鶹´«Ã½ at Greensburg.

Both Hernandez and Smith have made exceptional contributions to the progress and welfare of the University, serving with distinction and devotion.
