2 Pitt students received 2024 Critical Language Scholarships

Two Â鶹´«Ã½ students have been named 2024 Critical Language scholars. The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is an intensive summer opportunity for American college students to gain language and intercultural fluency in regions critical to U.S. economic prosperity and national security.

Here are Pitt’s winners:

Dannial Cardillo, a senior majoring in Chinese in the Kenneth P. Dietrich Â鶹´«Ã½ of Arts and Sciences, is a two-time Critical Language scholar; he previously won in 2023 and studied in Turkey. This time, he will be studying Persian in Tajikistan. Cardillo has also previously won the Boren and Gilman scholarships.

Christina White is a graduate student in the Â鶹´«Ã½ of Medicine. She will study Persian in Tajikistan and hopes to use her language skills to better serve Persian-speaking patients in Pittsburgh.
