The Â鶹´«Ã½ hosted the annual Leading Emerging and Diverse Scholars to Success (LEADS) Summit in June.
Nearly 30 people from minority serving institutions participated in the two-day event. Keynote speaker Candace Doby, whose work has been featured on MSNBC, NPR and TedX, talked about having courage in academics. The event also had a workshop on teaching and time management from the National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development.
The LEADS Summit is the result of a partnership by Pitt’s Institute for Clinical Research Education (ICRE) and nine minority serving institutions. The National Institutes of Health-funded program is led by ICRE Director Doris Rubio and provides a two-year fellowship in translational research designed to meet the unique needs of early career faculty and postdocs at MSIs. LEADS provides training in grant writing skills and networking opportunities with the goal of scholars successfully submitting a grant by the end of their fellowship.
