Have an idea for a workshop for this year’s ? All are welcome to their ideas before the June 26 deadline.
The forum, Advancing Social Justice: A Call to Action, is a first-of-its kind virtual event at Pitt from July 28-30 that’s free and open to the public. The goal of the forum is to equip participants with the tools to advance social justice within the University, the city of Pittsburgh and the region.
The workshops, all of which will be held virtually, should be between 60 to 75 minutes long, including Q&A. Anyone, including students, community members and social justice educators from across the spectrum, can submit proposals. Those with questions should email diversity [at] pitt.edu.
Joining the forum will be keynote speaker , author of the New York Times best-selling novel “How to Be an Antiracist.” The discussion with Kendi will be moderated by Valerie Kinloch, Renée and Richard Goldman Dean of Pitt’s .
Also set to speak at the forum:
- Jasiri X, Pittsburgh-based rapper and activist
- Leigh Patel, associate dean of equity and justice at Pitt’s 鶹ý of Education
- Darren Whitfield, assistant professor of social work and psychiatry at the Ի in the Kenneth P. Dietrich 鶹ý of Arts and Sciences
- anupama jain, executive director of Pittsburgh Gender Equity Commission
The forum is free and open to the public; . All are invited to their proposals for workshops by June 26, 2020.
